Syllabus of General Physics C
Textbooks:
“University Physics,” revised edition (Wiley), by Harris Benson
Topics to cover:
1. Angular Momentum and Statics
2. Gravitation
3. Electrostatics
4. The Electric Field
5. Gauss's Law
6. Electric Potential
7. Capacitors and Dielectrics
8. The Magnetic Field
9. Electromagnetic Induction
10. Maxwell's Equations
11. Electromagnetic Waves
12. Solids and Fluids
13. Temperature, Thermal Expansion, and the Ideal Gas Law
14. The Laws of Thermodynamics
In this course we will first continue last semester's study of mechanics. Therefore, for the first
couple of classes we will study angular momentum and statics, and the gravitational law. Then, we
will spend about 8 to 9 classes on electricity and magnetism culminating in the topic of maxwell's
equations and electromagnetic waves. For the rest of the semester will also study some simple
topics on fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. |
